Shuai Chiao
Pronounced "Swy Jow"
Shuai Chiao is said to be the worlds oldest martial art, dating back to about 2700bc. The name back then was Joa-ti. The modern term roughly translates to Throwing and Sweeping. Modern Shuai Chiao is mostly seen as a throwing sport taught in Chinese and Taiwan schools similar to wrestling in American schools. The combat aspects seem to be disappearing these days. There are few schools teaching the combat techniques in the United States.
When Grandmaster Chang started teaching Teacher, or Gene Chicoine, He knew with his and Teacher's ages they really did not have the time for Teacher to fully understand the throwing aspects of Shuai Chiao. So Chang concentrated more on the Martial Combat side of the art with him, and spent less time on the throwing.
Shuai Chiao is a versatile art. You can practice throwing as a sport, and with a little change of the technique and attitude, it becomes a very effective self defense style.
